Anteproyecto de la autopista de cuota de la avenida Lázaro Cárdenas en Guadalajara (México)

Preliminary design of the Lázaro Cárdenas Avenue toll motorway in Guadalajara (Mexico)

The project involves the study and definition of a new toll motorway through the Guadalajara metropolitan area, in the state of Jalisco (Mexico), in order to improve mobility and provide a high-capacity link between the city’s main access and exit corridors.

It comprises approximately 33.5 km of new road infrastructure, from the MEX-90D road, at the eastern access to Guadalajara, to the Venta del Astillero area, where the MEX-15 and MEX-15D roads towards Puerto Vallarta and Nayarit connect.

The project’s main feature is its route through a densely built-up urban area, using the corridors of Lázaro Cárdenas and Ignacio L. Vallarta avenues. The solution studied combines approximately 18 km at grade and 15 km on viaduct or elevated deck, allowing the new infrastructure to adapt to the existing roads and to resolve the many junctions and connections with the urban network.

SERS’s work covers the study of alternatives and the geometric definition of the route, in horizontal alignment, vertical alignment and cross-section, as well as the preliminary fitting of viaducts, structures and junctions. It also includes the basic drainage study, the preliminary definition of pavements, the analysis of existing infrastructure and the cost estimate of the proposed solutions.

The preliminary design seeks to establish a technically viable and functional solution, able to integrate a new high-capacity road into one of Guadalajara’s main communication axes, improving metropolitan connectivity and long-distance travel.
