Tender design for the Querétaro - Irapuato railway
The project is part of the development of a new passenger rail link between the cities of Querétaro and Irapuato, intended to improve intercity mobility and strengthen rail communications in central Mexico.
It comprises the general study of a corridor of approximately 107 km, passing through major urban and industrial centres, including Querétaro, Apaseo el Grande, Celaya, Salamanca and Irapuato.
SERS’s work covers the tender designs for two consecutive sections, between kilometres 5.6 and 36.3, 30.7 km long, and between kilometres 36.3 and 107, 70.7 km long, totalling 101.4 km of railway infrastructure defined for tender.
One of the project’s main features is the integration of the new passenger corridor with the existing freight rail network and its passage through consolidated urban areas. The study considers solutions that combine the use of current rail corridors with alternatives close to other transport infrastructure, especially the MEX-45D motorway, seeking to optimise the route and reduce the impact on rail operations.
SERS’s work covers the analysis of alternatives and the geometric definition of the horizontal alignment, vertical alignment and cross-section, as well as the fitting of bridges, viaducts and grade-separated crossings, the study of connections with the existing network and the changes needed to the freight tracks.
The project also includes the definition of earthworks, the drainage study and the main quantities of earthworks, track and drainage works, together with the technical documentation needed for the corresponding tenders.
The aim is to establish functional, technically optimised rail solutions, compatible with freight operations and adapted to the territorial and urban characteristics of one of the main communication corridors in central Mexico.
