The section runs through the municipal area of Loja and is made especially complex by the rocky nature and steep terrain, with slopes of up to 20%. As a result the drainage network has pronounced gradients. A design speed is proposed of 200 km/h. Designs for the passenger station at Loja to be built on this section included urban development, car park, hump yard and underpass of 6.5 x 3.5 m to connect the platforms. It also included underpasses of up to 8.0 x 5.7 m, cantilevered reinforced concrete walls (up to 9 m in height), up to 18 m of fill, repositioning of the A-341 road and 3 new intersections to connect the station with the A-92 highway.
