Variante de Loja-Íllora signalling post project
The detailed design for the platform upgrade of the Antequera–Granada high-speed line, on the section from the end of the Loja bypass to the Íllora signalling post, is aimed at preparing the existing railway infrastructure for a future standard-gauge double track along some 7.7 km, giving continuity to the works planned on this high-speed axis, which forms part of the Mediterranean Corridor.
The works focus on upgrading and widening the existing platform, with a planned track centre distance of 4.70 m, and include the analysis and adaptation of everything needed to make the new configuration compatible with the infrastructure currently in service. The design also covers an alignment improvement near Tocón, intended to increase the performance of the section.
Among the most significant items are the adaptation of the existing structures and drainage works, including overpasses and underpasses and the viaducts over the Milano and Pinares streams, as well as the Tocón viaduct. The design has to make every operation compatible with keeping rail traffic running during construction, setting out the phases and temporary arrangements required to guarantee continuity of service.
